New Delhi, Aug 21: Mobile phones have become an essential part of everyday life, and SIM cards are equally important for using mobile services. There are already several rules governing the purchase and use of SIM cards, and these regulations are periodically updated.

The Central Government has now introduced a new rule regarding SIM card connections, making it important for people to be aware of the latest requirements before purchasing a new SIM card.

The Central Government has taken an important decision regarding SIM cards and introduced significant changes to the existing rules.

From now on, an individual will not be able to obtain an unlimited number of SIM connections in their name. The government has implemented strict regulations in this regard.

Under the new rule, an individual can have a maximum of nine SIM connections in their name. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued strict instructions to telecom companies not to issue new SIM cards to individuals who already have more than nine connections.

The names and photographs of individuals who have more SIM cards than the prescribed limit will be uploaded to the Digital Intelligence Platform. This will enable such customers to be easily identified and prevent them from being issued new SIM connections.

If an individual has more SIM cards than the prescribed limit, any SIM card activated beyond the permitted limit in a single day will be immediately blocked until the issue is resolved.

Many people obtain multiple SIM cards from different service providers. One can check how many SIM cards are currently active in your name by visiting the Sanchar Saathi portal.

The Central Government's move is considered an important step towards curbing fraudulent calls and fake SIM cards. Mobile users are therefore advised to remain alert and verify the SIM connections registered in their names.
