Mumbai, Aug 21: Eight people were injured after a crane toppled onto houses in Kurla East early Friday morning while preparations were under way for an alleged eviction and demolition operation, a civic official said.

The incident occurred around 3 am at Buntara Bhavan, a MHADA building located behind Galaxy Apartment in Indira Nagar. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) staff present at the site, MHADA was preparing to launch an eviction and demolition operation in the area.

A crane was being mounted as part of the preparations when it toppled onto nearby houses, leaving eight people injured.

Six of the injured were admitted to the civic-run Sion Hospital, while two others were shifted to Bhabha Hospital in Kurla. Hospital authorities said all eight injured persons were in stable condition.

Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, 108 ambulance service and local ward staff were mobilised for the rescue operation following the incident.
