Mangalore, Jul 19: Coast Guard (CG) authorities have all geared up to face the after-effects in sea with Chinese vessel, Asian Forest on Saturday July 18 noon. Coast Guard ship ‘Kasturba Gandhi’ has already been sent for the surveillance of the region where ship wrecked. Similarly, ‘ICGS Sankalp’ and ‘Savithri Bai’ too have sailed for surveillance.

The service of CG surveillance ‘Dornier’, Indian Coast Guard aircraft from its Kochi unit has been summoned for the surveillance of ocean region where the ship has sunk, said Coast Guard Karnataka Commandant Padam Shekhar Jha. CG officials have further informed that the exact place of ship wreckage would be notified to caution all mariners. The DG Shipping will issue a radio warning to the shippers to enable them to mark their shipping charts and thus avoid the area while sailing.

Jha said that the off shore patrol vessels have been pressed into service to monitor the sea in the region where the vessel has sunk for any sign of pollution. The CG has mobilized all its resources to ensure zero pollution from the sunken vessel, he said. Pollution Response Team of Coast Guard from Mumbai has been alerted and all equipment required to check pollution are kept ready.

As a precautionary measure, CG ships from Mumbai and Kochi will also reach Mangalore with all equipment to tackle the situation, said Jha adding that the district administration, departments such as police and Home Guards will mobilize available resources to prevent pollution.

The company owning the ship, P&G Marine Company will make necessary arrangements for crew members including Captain Yin Shang Yan’s safe return to China with the help of district administration and police.
