Udupi, Jul 20: A person named John Mascarenhas (72), resident of Kera in Nallur village of Karkala taluk, died of drowning in Hukratte rivulet, while crossing it. In a case registered in Karkala rural police station, his family members said that he suddenly lost his balance and died while crossing the foot bridge across the rivulet while returning after visiting Hukratte market.

A report received by Malpe police station says that B Nataraj Rao (56), a resident of Badanidiyoor within Malpe police station limits, died after slipping, while walking in Thottam village. The district administration said, it would treat this as having been caused due to natural calamity, only after the post mortem report confirms reasons for his death.

In another report received at Hebri police station, suspicion has been expressed that Balla Naik (50), teacher of Totattadi government higher primary school, was washed away while attending to nature's call behind Chara rivulet. His wife Sumitra filed this report. Naik had left home on July 17 to attend training in Beltangady and his motor bike was found parked by the side of the rivulet later.
