Puttur: People Stranded Due to Non-removal of Huge Tree from Chelyadka Bridge

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Jul 20: The people living in various villages on the other side of Chelyadka Bridge on Puttur-Panaje road have been facing lots of problems since the last three days, because of the negligence of the officials concerned. A huge tree that got deposited on this bridge after it came floating in the flood waters, got stuck on the bridge on Friday July 17 and remained there, when the waters receded.

Villagers of Volattadka, Balleri, Byrodi, Ajjikal etc are finding it hard to reach the town because of the road block created by the tree. Even though the road is being maintained by the zilla panchayat, the tree comes under the forest department and relief operations of natural calamities falls under the purview of the revenue department. The people have complained to the forest department, zilla panchayat officials and the revenue department officials, but to no avail. The policemen from Sampya police station are not in a position to do anything, the locals said.

The officials have promised to vacate the tree by Monday. The locals said they would stage a road blockade at Uppalige as a mark of protest against the apathy of officials, if the needful is not done by Monday evening.
