Mangalore: 'Amway Opportunity Foundation' Conducts Blood Donation Camp


Mangalore, July 21: The need of blood is great. On any given day, an average of 34,000 units of blood are needed to save precious human lives from accident and burns, heart surgery, organ transplants & patients receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer & other diseases.

With a view to reaching out to the needy, 100 Amway distributors and general public donated blood organised by the Amway Opportunity Foundation (AOF), the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) division of Amway India.

The camp was conducted in association with Lions clubs International.





On the importance of blood donation, William Pinckney, Chairman – AOF says, “donating blood is one of the most noble and significant contribution that a person can make to the society. The first camp was organised at Amway India’s Head Office in Delhi in association with the Red Cross Society of India on 6th September 2002 where 70 Amway employees donated blood. From then on, till date, AOF has made possible more than 400 blood donation camps across the country with about 40,000+ donors, totally”.

Some of the cites where the camp has been organised are – Chennai, Madurai, Trichy, Kumbakonam, Bangalore, Dindigul, Nagercoil, Belgaum, Gulbarga, Hubli, Kochi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Bhubaneshwar, Siliguri, Jaipur, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Patna Guwahati, Thane, Thrissur, Coimbatore, Surat, Solapur, Kolhapur, Neyveli, Indore, Bhopal, Gorakhpur, Erode, Salem, Lucknow & Rajkot.

AOF has received three awards in Madurai in recognition of conducting the largest blood donation camp by a corporate house conducted in Madurai.  


AOF has been actively associated with several projects in the country. Under the National Project for the Blind, AOF with its partners AICB and NAB has successfully completed Braille Textbook project in Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Maharashtra Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Tamil Nadu and Braille Kit project in Kerala. In addition to this, AOF has also made possible Musical Evenings by Visually Challenged troupes.
