Mangalore, Jul 28: Two engineering students at a discussion on Global warming organized at Kalaangann at Shaktinagar near here on Sunday July 26 showed the elders that it is time to act and mere speech was not enough. The teenagers, Royston Fernandes and Jasline D’Souza, presently pursuing their education in Bangalore, gave presentation on global warming.

Jasline D’Souza, who presented his view on global warming through slide show, alerted the audience present on ill-effects of global warming. He said that if people are not attentive about the prevailing condition wherein the percentage of global warming stands at three per cent, soon the situation will turn worse leading mankind to death with percentage reaching up to six degrees.

Another speaker, Royston Fernandes said that selfishness and self-destructive activities of human beings play a major role in global warming. Royston Fernandes has authored a book, `Shall We Save the Earth?’ in 2007 soon after he passed his X standard from St Aloysius School. Royston has listed more than 40 points which leads to global warming in his book. Royston says his book was an outcome of his inability to find solutions to the queries he had in him on global warming through experts.

Royston was of the opinion that our politicians and experts need to do more than just talking. It is sad that world leaders too are unable to take any concrete measures to arrest global warming, he said adding that he received no reply from the experts and leaders to whom he had sent copies of his book.

Royston, son of B C Fernandes, a government servant wants to finish his engineering studies and work to create awareness among people on global warming. Thus he hopes to contribute a little to save the earth.

The discussion was organized under the leadership of Mandd Sobhann gurkar Eric Ozario in association with other like-minded people working for social and human rights organizations. Retired commodore C D Pereira, People’s Union for Civil Liberties district president P B D’sa, Prof Somashekarappa from Mangalore University, Capt (Rt) B D Vaz and Vidya Dinker, citizens activist were present.

If we do not stop abusing environment one day will come as these young boys have predicted. It is sad that although we know the ill effects of fuel burning in vehcles is contributing a lot to this global warning, the new fuel efficient innovations by Somender Singh and Joe Rodrigues, will catch dust and will become history, due to our lethargic approach to find the truth behind these innovations and implement.

It is good to see younger generation working out toward''s the global warming. I think it''s better to teach in the school during the morning assembly for 10 to 15 minutes about the global warming and how to proceted our envoirenment, what is good and what is bad for the earth etc etc. Early education about these things is good. Keep it up lad''s you both are doing a good job.

The young and the children, the earth belongs to you and your children in future. The current crop has no right to rob you of clean & fresh air, water and environment. Act now, get together for a cause which ensures a future for you all. Quiet and dignified activism will surely send home the message to all those who blatantly use all non replenishable resources for greedy luxury, pomp and glory.
