Watch: Indians litter streets in New Jersey post Diwali celebrations

Daijiworld Media Network - New Jersey (SHP)

New Jersey, Oct 30: The festival of lights, Diwali is celebrated not only in India, but also by NRIs living around the globe. However, one such celebration in an Indian Street in New Jersey is bound to cause embarrassment for Indians residing elsewhere.

A video uploaded on Twitter displayed how waste bottles, cracker boxes were littered on the road. The video carried a caption which reads, "Ashamed to be called an Indian. Last night on Indian Street near Journal Square New Jersey. Hats off to NJ Police handling the mess very professionally.”

The video also showcases a huge crowd of people responsible for the mess standing while the road is still being cleaned. The officials can be seen using water guns to clear the trash from the roads.

The Twitteratis have slammed the act and severely criticized the Indians celebrating Diwali in NJ. Since the time it went viral, it has drawn sharp reactions.

One of the users wrote, "These are the same people who fill seats at Howdy events."

One called it 'shameful', while another termed it 'horrid'.

While another Twitter user wrote, "According to 'New India' you cannot say or show anything which shows the reality to Indians. They are ready with their 'religious comparisons'. We are busy blaming each other."

this is what Indian are known for and hated for worldwide. I have lived in Dubai and seen people from smaller countries like Sri Lanka and Philippines are far more cleaner than Indians in personal hygiene as well as civic sense.

Hope Modi will not turn his plane go there and do the drama of cleaning.

She is not Modi to take and clean it with BROOM (in front of camera). And it is clearly visible in the video, Municipal Authorities cleaning the mess, while the bystanders are mere spectators (busy with mobile). Rightly a Twitter user wrote, "According to 'New India' you cannot say or show anything which shows.

This things reminds me of AAP where "when it won the Delhi elections in 2015 did it clean the roads after celebration and then only did it leave that place" .

I agree people should maintain some decency and must not litter after any celebration. The Organizer must be held responsible for any post cleanup activities. Please don't comment and generalize against anyone. This type of littering and chaos happens in every celebration and i have seen beer bottles, food packets etc being thrown around during July 4th or Halloween..

Pramod Sir, It is their country, their house, let them do whatever (Halloween/Independence) they want to do, is it necessary that we imitate them. Tomorrow if a group of Americans come to Delhi in large numbers and start littering and throwing garbage all over, what will you do? Will you tell them,"it is OK bro, we also do the same same so continue littering our place". I am sure you will confront them and also probably lynch them.

After all they have to prove that " they are Indians" - what a shame. NJ Authorities should have pulled up these people and fined them heavily. I always was of the impression that Indians while living abroad follow rules of that country and no rules when they come to India. This is such a disgusting situation really.
Would they do that in their own homes or surroundings of their own homes.!!
