Bengaluru: SC verdict in petitions by disqualified legislators in couple of days

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Nov 4: The judgement of the Supreme Court (SC) relating to petitions filed by 17 disqualified legislators against the order of the assembly speaker is expected to be out within a couple of days.

The SC had concluded hearing in the case and reserved its judgement. Bypoll has already been ordered for the constituencies vacated by the disqualification of these MLAs. Therefore, the leaders expect the Supreme Court order to be delivered before the nomination process concludes.

The SC, which had heard prolonged arguments by different lawyers representing the petitioners, election commission and the union government, had reserved its orders on October 25. It had holidays till November 3 thereafter.

The legislators were expecting the verdict to be out on the day of reopening of the SC after holidays, November 4. But the case of disqualified legislators is not listed on November 4. Therefore, they expect the order to come out on Tuesday or Wednesday. If the court upholds the order of the speaker, these legislators will lose their chance to fight the bypoll. If the court quashes the order of the speaker or asks the speaker to review the earlier order, they will get reprieve.
