Udupi, Aug 24: State home and district in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya laid the foundation stone for the construction of Kaup Government First Grade College, in the premises of Kaup Government Model Higher Primary School, here on Monday August 24 morning.
Dr Acharya, speaking on the occasion, said that the new building block will be constructed at a cost of two crore rupees, while the first phase of two floors will be built by the commencement of the coming academic year, with the first installment of Rs 50 lac.
Meanwhile, there are plans to begin vocational courses in the old building of Kaup Government First Grade College, here. Higher education sector is witnessing a revolution across the nation of late. Karnataka has become the hotspot of education. Earnest efforts are under way to set up a Sanskrit University and Law University in the state, he added.
Just 635 government high schools existed in the state till 1965, and this figure has since reached 11,000. The number of government first grade colleges was 162 just two academic years ago, which has since touched the figure of 189. The education institutions should be equipped and prepared to take up the challenges posed by the twenty first century, he emphasized.

College principal Prof M N Hegde welcomed the gathering. Public works department executive engineer Suresh Shetty delivered the introductory address. Dr Raviraj Shetty compered the programme.
