Udupi: District-Level Talent Hunt, Pratibha Karanji, at St Cecilia PU College

Udupi, Aug 28: Pratiba Karanji, a talent contest for primary and high school students of the district, was held at St Cecilia Composite Pre-University College, here on Thursday August 27.  It was organized under the aegis of the zilla panchayat, public instruction department and the office of block education officer, here.

MLA Raghupati Bhat inaugurated the programme, here on Thursday August 27 morning.

Speaking on this occasion, MLA Bhat expressed his wish, that the talents of the students from the district will shine brightly at the state-level Pratiba Karanji, which provides an ideal opportunity for the talented students to exhibit their latent talents.

He noted that in the past, the school activities were limited to the curriculum. In the latest revision of the curriculum, the education department has laid equal stress on extra-curricular activities, which help the children to achieve all-round development, he added.  The quality of education is monitored and maintained by the education institutions, through their dedicated teaching staff in the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada (DK), he observed.

Private educational institutions in the undivided DK district have been rendering their yeomen services in educating the masses. In addition, they organize various extra-curricular activities and health awareness campaigns for the students across the district, without expecting any government funds and with the generous contributions of the social welfare and voluntary organizations, he appreciated.

Episcopal vicar Fr Baptist Menezes graced the occasion.

Zilla panchayat member Gerald Fernandes, taluk panchayat president in-charge Katpady Shanker Poojary, acting deputy director of public instruction Nagesh Shanbhogue, municipal president Dinakar Shetty, Tebma Shipyard employee Lancy Gonsalves, Fisheries Marketting Federation president Yashpal Suvarna, Tulu Koota president Jayakar Shetty Indrali, Block Resource Centre coordinator Ramachandra Joshi and Aided Primary School Teachers Association president Kurkal Dinakar Shetty, were the chief guests.

St Cecilia Composite Pre-University College correspondent Sr Maria Savita AC and head teacher Sr Rosy Mendonca were also present.

Block education officer Manjunathaiah welcomed the gathering.  Devendra Prabhu compered the programme.

Nearly 1,350 students from 145 schools across the district participated in ‘Pratiba Karanji’, which was held in 19 specially erected stages.
