There is already Concrete Surface from Kankanady Circle to valencia. It was done few years back. Is Corrupt MCC along with Corrupt Contractor trying to pour concrete on top of Concrete already on the pavement. Are these city officials robbing us of our earned income? I say it again,only in Corrupt Mangalore. Ms.Vidya Dinker please take note of this CorruptionConcrete on top of Concrete. Even Airport Termac does not have this thick concrete. Lord have mercy on Mangaloreans.

It is pointless to consider broadening the road from Kankanady to Morgansgate. The real traffic starts only after Kankanady towards Hampankatta and that road cannot be broadened. Instead of cutting the trees it is better to develop a footpath possibly with interlocks so that pedestrians can walk in peace instead of using the road. Removing the street lights and pushing it closer to the walls is another solution to have more space for vehicles to move. A cleaner footpath will certainly encourage pedestrians to use it rather than walk on the road.

In response to Clita Neville,very good comment. Vanamahotsva is just a show for Public to watch. The same schools which celebrate this fake show, are bigger fakers. They are the ones remove hundreds of trees and build the buildings. In a Neermarga School, Vanamahotsva show was in action while right in front of the Children, head of the Institution was cutting the trees. At that moment few Children questioned the Headmistress,the real meaning of the Vanamahotsva. About those Pipes,I went to Mr.Palemars office twice and requested to remove the pipes. One Mr.Koragappa from this office Called KUDCEMP Authority and was told that they are belong to Contractor. And the Contractor is using the Public Land to store His pipes,specially on the road side. Only in Corrupt Mangalore this kind of things happen. If Citizen Forum was not in action,we the common Public will have to run for life.

This is just not done. We need to have a clear policy regarding felling of trees. We need to multiply manifold number of times planting of trees and saplings for each fallen tree. The govt. just thinks of road congestion and buildings but thinks very little of the environment.

Personally working for the dredging and environmental company, we are involved with mass scale dredging activity but we also have environmental impact assessments of turtle, marine life, corals etc. we need to take utmost care not to damage these.

Trees are more visible. I know in a city like Delhi, if one tries to cut trees, action is very stringent. I will also like to congratulate Vidya Dinker and all associated with the fight. I see Vidya''s pictures after 14 yrs.

Its easy tell that not to cut trees or change the plan of the road, but any one in the protestor able to give a good design for the road without cutting trees. And also noby in that portestor have planted trees in thier life. My sincire request to the people is let they cut the trees, its for development of our city, the road is for us only, in return we will plant many trees

Lets go Bangalore way. Lots of trees were uprooted & shifted to nearby ( 100 Ft) locations while constructing the Metro. We can also apply the same method. Since we have convents, churches, orpanages, schools on either side of this road, we can shift these trees & I dont think so these non profit organisation will have any problem. Of course the very huge trees ( one opp Jeppu Church) may not be feasable.

I know authorities have already cut down the greenery around MRPL in the name of development and now they have started cutting trees in the City.Sad to hear that. As long as things are are decentralised i dont think there would be any advantage in widening roads. Drought in all parts of the country is already killing human life and still the authorities dont learn a lesson.Also daiji should bring in the coverage that greenery is cut down deep inside a place near Neermarga and a Timber Factory for furniture production has been set up. Is this a Green Zone?please let us all know

Valencia-Kankanday road tree''s are very benifit for people those are living near by that area.lots of people walking on that road in summer time and jerosa school childrens waiting teir parents under that tree.so this is the right thing residents of Valencia doing.they have to protest against this matter.

Bitter truth but fact, why protest only when trees are cut down for the purpose of widening or developing roads for the future,same public when it comes building houses,flats, commercial complexes so many trees are been cut no worries then but when it comes city devolopment lot of action and protests,if the roads are not planned properly then better go by sky buses or flyovers all around the city.

Before deciding on cutting the trees, please have a wide look at the HUGE PIPES that are dumped near St.Gerosa School.For the past 5 years these pipes r there. Inspite of heavy traffic, accidents, not a single traffic police is seen near the place(Except the RTO''s for their income)Is concretization necessary for these roads? If the trees r destroyed, definitely the buses will run into the school premises.

Students at Gerosa School have just finished with their Vanamahotsava celebrations and look at our authorities giveing such a good example by cutting down the trees. Why don''t U put a full stop for all these Nataks in the school

I fully agree with Mr. Shahnawaz, development is a continous process and one needs to move ahead with times,if you cut one tree, plant ten elsewhere and make sure it is compensated,just protesting for everything is not acceptable, I am sure there is some hidden agenda behind protests (Aquisition of private property for widening). Afterall if the roads are concretised and widened it will benefit all the people.

How much time does it take to cut a tree and how much time does it take to grow one. There is no point in widening the road by cutting the trees. Trees are one of the most essential things to give us pure air to breathe.Development should be there but not with the cost of damaging the envoirenment at a stage where we have to plant more trees we are foolish enough to cut them, what a mentality.

The most beautiful and serine path in Mangalore is Valencia-Morgans gate road. Ever since my college education in Roshni Nilaya in 1991, this road has been giving me a beautiful experience of driving and walking thanks to these elagant trees. Please dont cut them for whatever reasons.

The road from Kankanady to Morgansgate is surrounded by Churches, Orphanages, Cemetries, Convents & Seminaries on either side of the road. Due to this there is no commercialisation and traffic is smooth and minimal. The area is also one of the most shadiest in Mangalore as large trees cover both sides of the road. I think it is not necessary to broaden the road in that area as it is not a highway.

It is very difficult if we not the infrastructure according present scenario of the mangalore. If we want to widen the road, no way we have to cut the tree. Sentiments with the tree doesn,t work. Lot of innocent people lost their life because of the poor condition of the road. I request local administration do maximum efforts to retain the tree. If no way is left cut the tree looking of planting 10 trees against one.

Good move by the citizen of Valencia and Jeppu Area to express their concern for retaining the age old trees, which gave pleasure to the strollers particulary senior citizens. However development is a must, if the M.C.C. is forced to  save these trees, then they will demand the land adjacent to the trees to build service road.Ultimately it is people''s loss and M.C.C.''s gain.

If the widening of road has to take place, not only trees but other obstacles must be removed. Deforestation, aforestaion and reforestation must be the continued process. If we cut one tree, we must plant another 10 trees so that damage is not done. The local community and administration must co operate with each other and do the reforestation before doing the deforestation.

From the pictures furnished by Ganesh S. Perla, and the matter as has been reported by the Daijiworld Media Network, it is quite evident that there is a strong resentment and anger emanating from the local community, specially people from Kankanady and Valencia, and it will be a shame if these trees have to go on the pretext of widening of the road. During my annual holidays in Mangalore, I go for my morning walks everyday along with my friend, right from Lower Bendore to Morgan Gate, via Kankanady Hospital, Retreat House, Jeppu Seminary, etc., enjoying on the way, the shade, serenity and beauty of these trees, but I will be utterly be disappointed if these tress will not be there any longer. I therefore, strongly urge the Commissioner of Mangalore Mr.Vijay Kumar and Dy. Commissioner Mr.V. Ponnuraj, to heed to the plea of the local people and save these historic trees, which are so dear to them.
