Mumbai, Dec 14: Over 50 anti-CAA activists were detained on Friday evening from Churchgate station. The police officials held them in Marine Drive police station before releasing them the same night.

One of the detainees included former IAS Kannan Gopinathan, who quit the service after Art 370 was revoked.

The activists were reading out Article 19 of the Constitution near Churchgate station when Gopinathan and others were placed in a police van. He and others have planned a march at Marine Drive on December 19 to protest against the amended citizenship law. The Samajwadi Party too has planned a morcha at Azad Maidan against the law on Saturday.

“We were peacefully protesting outside Churchgate station. Nobody was shouting any slogans, but cops detained my colleagues," said one of the activists M A Khalid. Soon after, Khalid was detained as well.
