160 Jet Flights Cancelled as Pilots Continue 'sick leave'

Mumbai/New Delhi, Sep 9 (IANS): For the second consecutive day Jet Airways flights were disrupted following an ongoing agitation by pilots, leading to cancellation of 160 flights across the country Wednesday, an airline official said.

Many pilots continued to report sick Wednesday despite a Bombay High Court order last evening restraining them from resorting to any form of strike in the country's largest private airline.

Many passengers, however, had already cancelled their flights with Jet Airways. So there was relatively less chaos at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile the striking pilots got support from the National Union of Seafarers of India. General Secretary Abdul G. Sarang said early Wednesday that until the issue was resolved, the NUSI would not utilise the services of Jet Airways to transfer their members all over the country and to other parts of the world.

Jet pilots are expected to meet the Director General of Civil Aviation, a senior civil aviation ministry official said Wednesday. The directorate has asked states to see if it is necessary to invoke the Essential Service Maintenance Act (ESMA) if the agitation continues.

The government is expected to meet Jet Airways officials sometime later in the day. It could also give clearance to the national carrier Air India to add flights to carry Jet Airways passengers.

Jet Airways officials have said that they have been able to maintain their international operations. However, it had to cancel 16 international flights Tuesday after the pilots reported sick.

The best and corrective step is to deduct the salary to the extent of loss proportionately. First comes discipline, then comes all negotiations, if the Pilots are not happy with the negoitations, ''door should be wide open''

This news is in CNN, and those passengers who were planning to leave for India will be thinking twice about the trip. The sick pilots must be arrested and put into jail and give medical treatment. This is nothing but terrorism. Had they given a warning to the public, we could have understood the matter. Those people who are supporting the pilots have never made many plane trips.

The pain of the passengers can''t be understood by some people who are making irresponsible comments, supporting these hooligant pilots for their reckless behavior. They must be responsible for punitive damage. The government of India will have to take strong stand to break this kind mentality by the pilots, or whichever person it might be. If the pilots don''t like their employer, they could have left the company. But the 400 pilots have created a domestic terriorism without bloodshed, and they must be responsible for their actions.

The Jet Airways Managment is determined for disiplinary and punitive action against such pilots who violated and unauthorized absence from duty. Around 400 pilots on ''sick leave'' are they suffering from any sickness they must take all the pilots to hospital. Lots of passenger travelling International routes on connected flights for their destination onwards bound also big financial losses to the airlines. These cock-pit pilots need to be terminated immediately.

I totally disagree with Mr Lancelot N Tauro and say the opposite that those 2 persons who were terminated be made the President n V. President of the Union and it has to be formed failing which the employers will be playing around with the employees and we employees should have the rights and become wealthy like the employers...Go Yes for the Union.

It is better to terminate all these Pilots, and let them start thier own business by forming many unions, instead of taking salary benefits from the JET company.
