Mumbai man arrested with 4 kg gold worth Rs 1.4 crore

Mumbai, Dec 20: A 35-year-old man was arrested by Customs on Wednesday for smuggling gold ornaments worth Rs 1.4 crore from Dubai.

The accused identified as Gaurav Dilip More, resident of J B Nagar was intercepted by the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs. As per officials, More was stopped on suspicion, although he walked through the green channel and the Customs exit gate. When his luggage was checked, the authorities found 29 gold chains, 30 gold bracelets and three hooks weighing 4 kg worth Rs 1.4 crore.

On further interrogation, More claimed that he was carrying the gold for a man called Zaffarbhai from south Mumbai. He was booked under the Customs Act and will be produced before the court. Until then, More is placed in judicial custody till December 22.

However, More's lawyer stated that his client had presented legal documents of his gold purchase. The advocate claimed that More was being falsely implicated.
