Bengaluru: Karnataka to become first state to implement amended citizenship law?

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Dec 22: Even as protests against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act and the proposed NRC intensify across the nation, with close to 20 deaths being reported, the BJP seems to be already putting together a plan in action to screen illegal immigrants.

Despite protests and intense opposition, both the national BJP and Karnataka BJP leaders have insisted that there was no question of backtracking on the Act. In a damage control exercise, an unsigned clarification on CAA and NRC was issued, purportedly from the home ministry. However, it has done little to pacify opposition.

In Karnataka, both chief minister B S Yediyurappa and home minister Basavaraj Bommai have time and again said that the state will soon implement both CAA and NRC, and as per reports, the implementation may well be under way.

According to a report by Deccan Herald, Karnataka may even be the first state in India to implement CAA and NRC, with the "work on implementation rumoured to start as early as January 2020."

The issue of infiltration and illegal immigrants from Bangladesh settling in Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka has always been debated in the capital city, and several state agencies collecting date of illegal migrants. The report states that even though the issue is prevalent nationwide, Karnataka has been especially proactive in identifying and flagging the problem.

In fact, it is gathered that Karnataka has even completed one round of identification of illegal migrants in the southern districts of the state.

Quoting law and parliamentary minister J C Madhuswamy, the report states that as per the intelligence report, the entire process will affect only about 30,000 people, and not everyone.

Bengaluru has about 13,000 'illegal immigrants' from Bangladesh, said to be one of the largest congregation in India, and most of them Muslims.

Home minister Bommai had last month acknowledged that the state has been collecting information about illegal migrants along with their 'criminal activities'. Once the report is ready, it would be sent to the union home ministry for further action.

It has also been reported in the past that the government is already building detention centres near Nelamangala to accomodate illegal migrants. However, the state officials have insisted that the centres were only for the detention of foreigners overstaying and not for those singled out during NRC.

For driving out illegal immigrants, a bill is not required..... Bill is created with much propaganda only to create polarisation as Governments can continue only on the basis of that..... Why the Government did not introduce this in last year (It would have affected elections).... This is sheer politics.... When we say Nation comes first and then religion, why should we look at the religion of the immigrant who stayed back in that country for his own selfish interests.... Let his drive out every ILLEGAL immigrant irrespective of his religion / caste / minority-majority status etc..... Those who are for and against this unwanted enactment are actually fools playing into the hands of those who wanted to divide the indian polity and destroy the social fabric of the country.

Biggest problems Indians are going to face is drinking water scarcity, pollution, environment other than the existing problems of unemployment, economic slowdown. Let us work on that

As per NRC : People who do not posses the documents to prove they are Indians will be sent to detention camps.

How many indians has the documents especially poor people.

Those Hindus who will be in detention camp will be given documents as they do not have any place to go.

As per CAB : People migrated from Bangladesh, Pakistan & Afghanistan.

Finally, again hindus will get citizenship as they don't have place to go.

WHY THIS DISCRIMINATION, why can't we have common rule for everyone, irrespective of religion.

If Muslims wanted to leave India they would have done it during partition but they did'nt, they opted to stay in India its their choice.

Good sensible comment..if bill is introduced , it might indirectly help improving economy, standard of living, and safety of country...You may be aware of the fact that there are more than 2 cr Illegal Bangladeshis are staying in India who snatched jobs of true Indian citizens and Secondly, they do crime and public will show finger towards Indian Muslims for no fault because no one is going to check crime committed by Indian Muslim or Bangladeshis...So, if illegal Bangladeshis are sent home, then it is a great relief for everyone.. I support Bill...

    1) From where did you got the report that they are 2crore bangladeshi in Karnataka
    2) For driving out bangladeshi, We dont need any bill, A Regular check up is enough to identify them and send them
    back
    3) If you driving out bangladeshi from india, What about Indians working in Bangaldesh ?
    4) Who said they have snatched away the jobs of indians muslims, they work as labour or small jobs which
    we dont do ?

You are talking from one perspective ,
    5) With respect to CAB bill, You are talking about one side, but you are not talking about
other side This violates the constitution , it is condemned by UN as dicriminatory bill
International agencies are condemning it worldwide
    6) If you so much concerned about minorities from other countries why excuded Rohingyas and Tamilians?

It will not effect you because yoru religion is not excluded in the bill , if it was i kknow how would you react with
negative imapct. but you will support it because it is the propaganda of RSS, BJ

Even if the law is not implemented there will be the possibility of covert harassment and atrocities against those illegal migrants as it happened in Mumbai during the 1970s.
