Panaji, Sep 6: Every government primary school in Goa will receive at least two tablet computers to introduce digital and computer education at the primary level, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced on Saturday.
Speaking at a Teachers’ Day programme, Sawant noted that computer and digital education had not yet been introduced in primary classes in government schools.
“On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, I would like to announce providing a minimum of two tablet computers to each government primary school,” he said.
Sawant clarified that the tablets would be shared among students and used to help them develop digital skills. The government will also provide computer training to primary school teachers.
He said teachers play a key role in shaping students’ careers and helping realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a developed nation.
Nine teachers felicitated
During the Teachers’ Day event, nine teachers were honoured with the **CM Vashistha Guru Puraskar 2025–2026** for their exemplary contribution to education.
In the primary teacher category, the awards went to **Eshwar Parab** of Government Primary School, Surla, Bicholim, and **Arati Kolambkar** of Government Primary School, Chaudi, Canacona.
In the secondary teacher category, the awardees were **Nitin Naik**, physical education teacher at Shivajiraje High School, Sal, Bicholim; **Devendra Sathe** of Dattaram Mantravadi Memorial High School, Mapusa; **Prashant Tari**, special educator at the Gujarathi Samaj Educational Trust for the Handicap Special School, Aquem, Margao; and **Gourish Vernekar**, drawing teacher at Shree Katyayani Baneshwar High School, Canacona.
In the high school headmaster category, **Narendra Naik** of Government High School, Hankhane, Pernem, and **Mable Maria Perpetua Vaz e Da Costa** of Mae Dos Pobres High School, Nuvem, were honoured.
In the higher secondary principal category, **Umesh Naik** of Shri Shantadurgra Higher Secondary School, Pirna, received the award.
Sawant said there was no partiality in the selection process and that the awards were presented to teachers who had excelled in their respective fields.
