Mangalore, Sep 20: ‘
Gramoda Gouji’, a programme meaning ‘village celebration’, was held near Padu Bondanthila School on Sunday September 20.  The traditional games of Tulunaldu, the rich culture, and cuisine of the land, were all on display.

Several organizations in Padu Bondanthila and nearby villages joined in this event to celebrate the traditional culture of Tulunadu. Thousands of residents from the area and surrounding villages met together to participate in the events and to encourage the participants.

Traditional games like ‘Lagori’, ‘Kuttidonne’, ‘Baitha Ball Budpini’, ‘Kurve Modepini’, singing ‘Paddana’, ‘Palli, Madal Modepini’, and ‘Maipu Olipuni’ were organized. The competitions caused senior citizens to reminisce about their heydays.

‘Kesarugadde Ota’ (race in a ploughed paddy field), ‘Edurukathe’ (telling idioms in Tulu) ‘Ulumeyondi Urol’ (songs farmers sing during ploughing) and making a 20-feet human pyramid to reach a prize, were some of the other events held on the occasion.

The games were held at Padu Palli, a paddy field near the school, and traditional food items were served at a counter adjacent to the field.

‘Padengida Neer’ was served for breakfast while ‘Ambade Uppad’, ‘Thimare Chatni’, ‘Gujje Kadle Ajadina’, ‘Kaje Aritha Ganji’, and other items were for lunch. ‘Ragi Kashaya’ and other snacks were served in the evening.

Pragathibandhu Swasahaya, Vigneswara Grameenabihivruddi Seva Samithi, Navakeerthi Vyayama Shale, Konimar,  Durgashakthi Yuvaka Vrunda, and Padu Kombel, were among the several organizations that came together to host this event.

Folk songs by Sheena Nadoli and Mime Ramdas group were an added attraction. Folk dances and other variety programmes were also a part of the engrossing day.

Dear Vijay, I can understand ur feeling forget about saleems comment.  Those type of narrow minded peoples  can not understand culture or anything.they are acting like illiterate people.so my humble request you all organise more programmes like "gramoda gauji"which are showing our healthy Tulunadu Culture.your efforts &dedication to revive the rich traditions of tulunadu are praiseworthy.

Very good and sportive. We need such events to be organised in the future and such events would mend hearts and feelings. As these are cultural and traditional events of Tulunadu, which are being forgotten by the new generation, it is absolutely necessary and vital to revive them. Such events are witnessed/participated/enjoyed by the people of Tulunadu who irrespective of caste/faith share the same culture and traditions. These events promote love and understanding. I can see smiles in all faces and I certainly dont make a difference whether participants are muslims/christians/hindus. But I can only say there are tuluvas. We need such events to promtoe health in the society. I must thank the organisers and DW for flashing the coverage with good pictures.

"Gramoda Gouji" - Titile itself attracting. I found not only "Gouji in Padu Grama" But also hidden talents of the Padu grama in the beautiful pictures. This programme is the model for all the gramas(Villages) of our Dakshina Kannada for peaceful living and to make chance for rural talents to show thier creativity in form of sports or arts. Padu villagers concept of "Grama" is realy great. This programme a lesson for the people who are only thinking about community. "Grama" is always bigger than "community". I salute the organizers of this programme.
