Mangalore, Sep 21: In an incident that occurred on Saturday September 19, a fisherman drowned in the sea off the Old Bunder port here, while engaged in fishing activity. He has been identified as Manoj (40), a native of Kumta.

Manoj used to work for the fishing boat titled, 'Al-Noor'. The boat had set off from the port at around 7 pm on Saturday to undertake deep sea fishing. As the boat reached the point where the sea tide meets the river mouth, a huge wave heaved the boat and sent Manoj, who lost his balance, into the sea. Three others, who were in the boat at the time, tried to save Manoj, but failed to do so.

On a complaint filed by Parameshwar, who was steering the boat at the time of the accident, Pandeshwar policemen have registered a case. Search operations are on.
