Mangalore: Murderous Assault on Fish Merchants - Five Held

Mangalore, Sep 22: In connection with the assault against the local fish merchants at the dock of the Old Port here on September 14 by a few persons, who were objecting to the holding of the auction of the fish catches before their arrival, with sharp weapons on September 14, the policemen have arrested five persons of the gang led by Khavunhi from Kudroli.

The arrested persons have been identified as Abdul Qasim Khavunhi, Irfan, Rameez, Arif and Riaz.

It may be recalled that in the early morning of September 14, a gang of over 15 people with swords in hand, had swooped on the Old Bunder area in the city, where fish auction was in progress, and had launched an indiscriminate assault on a group of fish merchants led by Ashraf from Ullal Chembugudde here. The seven fish merchants, who had sustained injuries to their heads, ears and hands with sharp weapons, had got admitted into local hospitals for treatment.
