Fresh bids invited for 10 monorail rakes

Mumbai, Jan 7: MMRDA will float fresh global bids for 10 monorail rakes as earlier only one firm showed interest. China's CRRC Corporation Ltd and BYD were the ones to submit bids to supply 10 train-sets months back.

Currently, MMRDA operates the service with five rakes at a 20-minute frequency between Chembur and Jacob Circle.

An official said, “We will improve frequency to 15 minutes after introduction of the rake.”

The officials have also claimed that new bids will take a few months to finalise. These extended months will involve retendering and approval from the executive committee.

However, the scrapping of bids will delay procurement of rakes, which could impact the quality of services as a successful bidder will take around 14 months to roll out the first stake.
