Mangalore, Sep 25:
A book co-authored by the principal of Mahesh Pre-university college here, Dr Nityananda Shetty, with Dr Dinesh Nayak, lecturer of Coorg Public School, titled  'Modern America, Barrack Obama and India’ was released by the state youth Congress president,  Krishna Bhyre Gowda, on Thursday September 24.

Speaking at a function organized at Mahesh College here in this connection,  Krishna Bhyre Gowda said that Obama is being looked upon as a symbol of social equality in the world, with his efforts, by successfully bringing together all the citizens of America by declaring, 'We are all Americans’. His efforts have ended the war of racism, division of  the country on the basis north-south and blacks and non-blacks, and steering that country from the stronghold of the fundamentalists, and turning a new leaf in the history of the country, he noted.

There are suppressed classes in America too. Obama hails from a black community that was suppressed. But he rose up from the ruins, left his sufferings behind and led USA towards a new direction by putting in appreciable efforts, he explained.

Chairman of Alva's Education Foundation Moodbidri, Mohan Alva, said that there is lot of difference between America and India as far as the way of living of the citizens is concerned. In USA, family relationships have become weak and brittle. This phenomenon has been spreading fast even in India.  While accepting modernity and imbibing any other culture, we should take care to strengthen the bond and relationships between human beings, he opined.

Journalist N A M Ismail said that the people’s thinking about America has changed now. He pointed out that USA was supposed to be a heavenly place that it was imperialist. The recession has changed all those notions. Now, no one dreams of America and we view America in a different dimension. So, the book that has come at this juncture, gains prominence and the authors have presented America in a practical and realistic angle in their book, he added.

Nityananda shetty, principal of the college and co- author of the book, welcomed. Anil Mascarenhas proposed vote of thanks. Prabhakara Shetty, secretary of the college governing council, was present.
