Mangalore/Udupi,Oct 3 (DHNS) : Intermittent rains lashed Dakshina Kannada on Saturday. A person washed away in a swindling Phalguni river at Perady village near Belthangady. The deceased has been identified as Sanjeeva (25). The body was retrieved at Kashipattana.
In the last 24 hours, Belthangady has received highest rainfall of 120.6 mm followd by Moodbidri 100.3 mm, Bantwal 22.6 mm, Puttur 14.0 mm, Mangalore 11.6 mm and Sullia 5.2 mm.
Several paddy fields have been inundated. The water-level in Nethravathi, Kumaradhara and Payaswini have increased considerably.
A house has been fully damaged. Another house was partially damaged when a coconut tree fell on it at Bappalike. Two houses have been partially damaged in Moornekkilady and Dolpady in Kadaba. The connecting road to a bridge in Nadayithodu in Aladangadi has been collapsed, causing inconvenience to the pedestrians. A bridge near Soolabettu has been completely collpased. A hillock caved in near Laila in Belthangady and has affected the estate of a certain Chitharanjan. Another hillock has caved in near Belthangady bridge.
The house of one Venkappa Nalke has been collapsed due to heavy rains in Posalike in Dharmasthala. The loss is estimated as Rs 25,000.
Kalmakaru, Kollamogra, Balugodu in Subramanya have received heavy rains. A huge tree which was uprooted and has damaged a hanging bridge at Bendodo. Four cattle have been washed away in the flood. Several arecanut, coconut and rubber trees have been uprooted.
Electricity, telephone connections have been disrupted in Kundapur taluk. Low laying areas have been inundated. Koni-Basrur road in Kundapur taluk was inundated and caused inconvenience to the movement of vehicles. Five to six houses have been damaged in Kundapur taluk.
In the last 24 hours, Kundapur taluk has received highest rainfall of 133.40 mm followed by Karkala 107.60 mm and Udupi 75.60 mm.
Fishermen have been warned not to venture into sea in the next 24 hours. All the field staffs are alerted and boats have been kept at strategic places.
Life jackets have been kept ready. Red Cross and Home Guards are on alert to tackle the emergency situations, said DC Hemalatha.
District Fisheries Department Assistant Director Harish informed that a country boat has been engaged to help the emergency call in the low lying areas of Uppur, Navunda and Kodavur, he said.
Bus cancelled
Owing to the flood situation in North Karnataka, two volvo buses bound to Hyderabad from Mangalore have been cancelled on Sunday, said DTO Jaishanth.
The buses will be started after assessing the situation on Monday. On Friday, the bus had left for Hyderabad and had reached till Moodbidri. However, it was called back following the flood. Passegers have been refunded.
