Mangalore: Heavy Rains in Malnad Region

Mangalore, Oct 15: On Wednesday October 14 evening, sudden rains coupled with lightning and thunder, caught the people of Beltangady, Puttur and Bantwal taluks of Dakshina Kannada district unawares. In some places, the downpour continued for about 90 minutes.

Except minor damages to a house each located in Tenkabettu of Shirlalu and Darbuje in Kadthala village in Karkala taluk, and that power supply was cut off to several villages, no major damages were reported. Sullia, Subrahmanya, Vittal and the city experienced cloudy weather with intermittent drizzle.

In the meanwhile, Mescom reported that it lost about Rs 1.5 lac in the form of snapped poles and severed cables due to the storm that swept through the Malnad region on Monday.

Several places in Shimoga, Chikmagalur and Kodagu district too received rains on Wednesday.
