Mangalore: Mist Forces Air India Express Dubai Flight Land at Thiruvananthapuram

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SB)

Mangalore, Oct 20: Misty morning on Monday October 19 resulted inconvenience for the service of flights at the Bajpe airport here and thereby posed a dampner to the festive spirit of people.

In an incident that posed nuisance to both the users of 6.30 am Air India flight that lands at the airport from Dubai and those who arrived at the airport to receive the passengers, the mist rendered it impossible for the said flight to land. The flight after circling the airport thrice moved towards Kerala and landed at Thiruvanantapuram much to the chagrin of both the passengers and their friends and relatives waiting at the airport.

Air India Face People’s Wrath

The people, who had arrived at the airport to receive and send their relatives and friends, some from far away places were made to wait for over nine hours at the airport. The people who lost their cool due to the inconvenience took to task the officials of the airport and employees of the carrier. Terminal officers took it upon themselves the task of pacifying the protestors and made sure that situation did not get out of hand.

Poor Service Plays Spoilsport to Passengers’ Festive Mood

According to sources, the pilot after landing at the Thiruvanthapuram airport did not come back as his shift for the day was complete. It was only after seven hours at about 2.40 pm that the said flight landed at the Bajpe airport much to the relief of the people.

However, the damage was done and the passengers who came visiting their families on a day off to spend fun time during the festive season had to suffer from the pain of not being able to spend quality time with their loved ones.

I really appreciate G.Sadananda's expressions. At this point AIE authorities at least provided air service from Thiruvantapuram. Piloting an aircraft continuously 4 to 6 hrs is very tiredsome, pilot should be very conscious and vigilant while flying to avoid clouds, aircrafts. The passengers life travelling is under him, he will always in high alert. our people does not have patience and understand the situation. Travelling in a aircraft is not like travelling in a bullock cart. You can imagine the error of the pilot will cause anything. Friction of seconds are counted and he has to follow the rules and routes. Pilot keep it up.

Unfortuately our people do not understand that a pilot has also to abide by Govt. Civil Aviation Safety regulations that do not permit a pilot to fly after a certain number of hours or a fixed number of landings/take offs. So even if the pilot is willing he SIMPLY CANNOT as per the rules so why dont the people understand and stop blaming Air India. Secondly, if the diversion from Bajpe to Tiruvananthapuram is unscheduled due to bad weather and pilot cannot continue due to RULES AI has to arrange an alternate set of crew and this would in all probability have to be flown in from somewhere else, WHICH TAKES TIME. The fact is that AIE did fly the passengers to Bajpe though later and did not ask them to find their own way from Thiruvananthapuram, which would have been "unpardonable". We have to appreciate that the airline HAS TO abide by the country's regulations. Many people from the Middle east forget that it is the same Air India that flew continuous flights and rescued so many Indians stranded during the Gulf war. So many AI staff worked night and day to make that record breaking humanitarian airlift possible! Public memory is very short indeed.

The delay attributed due to mist is understandable. But the attitude of AIR INDIA, not understanding the sentiments of Passengers ON VACATION, making them and their family members to wait extended hours which can not be justified at any cost is unpardonable. Its time AIR INDIA management start training course of basic management, customer satisfaction, effective time management skill to its few of senior erring staff, so that AI's, march towards bankcruptcy shall be halted.
