Mangalore, Nov 4: As part of its ongoing platinum jubilee celebrations, the Catholic Sabha unit of Guardian Angel parish, Angelore, organized ‘Senior Citizens’ Day’ on Sunday November 1 under the aegis of the platinum jubilee committee.
Nearly 170 elderly members (65 years and above) of the parish participated in the event. After the sacrament of confession for the needy, Carmelite priest Fr Alwyn Sequeira offered a Holy Eucharistic Mass at 11.00 am on Sunday. .
After the Holy Mass, a get-together was held at Guardian Angels Primary School Hall at 12.30 pm.
Angelore parish priest Fr Stany B Lobo, in his message, said that all the elders are lucky to have God’s grace to live a full life. “No matter how hard we try, we all will grow old with time. It is always better that we age gracefully”, he said.
Fr Sequeira said that in old age, seniors should not look back, but look-up to the heavens for God’s blessings to live a peaceful, healthy, and secure life. “Elders must be loved and taken care of as we all will grow old with time. It is in giving that we will receive”, he said.
Angelore parish council vice-president Jossy D’Souza was present on the dais.
After conducting spot games and entertainment for the elders, wine and lunch was served. All the senior citizens were happy with the arrangements and thanked the organizers of the programme.
Angelore unit Catholic Sabha president Edwin Coutinho welcomed the gathering. Secretary Felix Fernandes thanked all those responsible for the successful function. William compered the programme.
