Bring back all J&K detainees from outside, says Farooq Abdullah

Srinagar March 15 (IANS): In his first official statement on Sunday, former J&K Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, who was released from his 7-month detention on Friday, has underlined the importance of free exchange of ideas and urged all political leaders here to unite to demand bringing back all J&K detainees from outside J&K, pending their release.

"I have consciously avoided making any political statements since I was released from detention on the 13th of March. While I believe a free & frank exchange of political views is essential so that we can take stock of the momentous changes that J&K has seen after 5th August 2019, we are still some way away from an environment where such political discourse will be possible. This is especially so considering the number of people detained in August last year who remain in jails outside J&K," said Abdullah.

"I am acutely aware that compared to hundreds of Kashmiri families, I have been far more fortunate. I was detained at home & my family had access to me. Yesterday when I went to meet my son Omar, also detained under the Public Safety Act, I had to travel a kilometre from my home to be able to see him. For families of most of the detainees meeting their loved ones is not nearly as easy. Their loved ones have been detained in jails spread across a number of states. They get two visits a month for which they have to spend large sums of money they can ill-afford traveling to & staying in the vicinity of these prisons," he said.

The already onerous financial burden is made worse by the health risk they now face because of COVID-19. At a time when people are being advised not to travel, these families are being forced to put their lives at risk in order to meet their loved ones for a few short but very precious hours, he said in the statement.

"Before we allow politics to divide us, I appeal to all political leaders here to unite behind the call to the Union government to bring back all detainees from J&K in prisons outside pending their release. This is a humanitarian demand & I hope others will join me in placing this demand in front of the government of India," said the former CM and ex-Union minister.

Why were they detained?. PSA for what reason?. Till the prevoius night of abrogation of article 370 in Kashmir there were no law and order instances. Why govt in the centre artificially creating law and order situation and creating fear and insecurity in innocent people's mind???. 7 months of lock down with emergency like situation in Kashmir when everything was going on smoothly in Kashmir now govt has made Kashmir a giant detention centre and brining its economy to a grinding halt. Nothing has been achieved everything has been destroyed by BJP govt.and the future is very much uncertain.

Everything was going on smoothly in Kashmir. ??? Are you serious???. It may have been for Pakis and their supporters on this side of the border. These are the leaders who provoked the public to fight Indian administration on religious grounds. That too after eating from Indias tax payers moneys . Now these leaders are rear ended, Na Udhar Na Idhar. No more special status. Anybody who tries to fight Indian law will be jacked in the right place. The lesson is clear, you cannot be a seperatist, sing Paki tunes, and then expect India to feed. Its not Vadra Congress anymore. Those days are gone.

FYI, now Kashmir is exactly how and what Pakistan wanted. It has come to a standstill and no activities of any sort and no thriving economy to the envy of Pakistan, hence people are frustrated and angry beyond limit while Pakistan is enjoying the whole drama unfolding without breaking a sweat. And if anyone dares to come out and defies in Kashmir the security personnel are doing the job of Pakistani terrorist by taking them to task. Kashmiris are facing internal terrorism of BJP govt than the threat from Pakistan. How cool is it now for Pakistan but blind Bhakths can not see and realize. The longer it lingers it's better for Pakistan but sadly very harmful for India and Kashmir in particular. BJP is making Kashmiris hate them and in revenge invite Pakistan to avenge the govt.

Boss, Like i said earlier, Its not Vadra Congress at the center with MMS or RaGA as the PM , for Kashmiris to avenge. Pakistan has lost its game in Kashmir and the whole world has isolated them except for Turkey or Malyasia. There is no free movement from POK to Indian Kashmir like earlier. The scrapping of 370 has jacked them. Yes Pakistan is enjoying, Imran is counting his days, as the Roti as gone to Rs 40. Every Paki TV channel and news paper have candidly admitted that kashmir is a gone case for them. The day is not far, when Imran Khan may send his resignation after fleeing abroad. Pakistan is more worried on how to safe guard Muzzafarbad POK capital rather than worry about Indian Kashmir. Regretfully, the only one who feels that Paki is winning is the Amulya Leona Noronha fans.
