Mumbai, Mar 23: Women who protested at Mumbai Bagh since 54 days against NPR and NRC-CAA have decided to pause their protest amid coronavirus outbreak. The women protested since January 25 over scrapping of the NRC-CAA and NPR.

"All the protests at Mumbai Bagh are withdrawing due to coronavirus epidemic and section 144 in Maharashtra. We are equally willing to stop the spreading of coronavirus by mass gathering at the protest site. The protest will continue after corona epidemic at Mumbai Bagh. The symbolic protest will be continued at Mumbai Bagh, people will protest online. We may have differences with the government on CAA, NRC and NPR but we are with the government to fight against COVID-19," a statement from Rubaid Ali Bhojani, an activist from Mumbai Bagh, posted in the 'Mumbai Bagh Protest Media' read.

On March 20, an argument broke out at Mumbai Bagh after some youth manhandled a retired assistant police commissioner Shamsher Khan Pathan. Reportedly, the decisions to continue the sit-in or pause the protest is divided among the protesters.

The additional force from the Nagpada police station landed at the Mumbai Bagh to control the situation. Police took several people to the police station. The situation was under control. The police arrested Pathan and former MLA Fayyar Ahmed.
