Female US soldier stationed in S.Korea dead, cause unknown

Seoul, March 24 (IANS): A female American soldier stationed in South Korea was found dead in her barracks room last week, while the cause of her death was under probe, the US military said Tuesday.

Private First Class Marissa Jo Gloria was found unresponsive in her room at Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, 70 km south of Seoul, on March 21 and pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel, the Yonhap News Agency quoted the 2nd Infantry Division as saying.

The cause of her death is under investigation, the military said, though officials said they do not believe her death has anything to do with the COVID-19 virus.

The 25-year-old combat engineer joined the US Army from North Dakota in January 2019, and arrived here in April that year.
