Udupi: Fall Out of Highway Repairs Commencement – Proposed Bandh Postponed

Udupi, Nov 30: ‘Rashtreeya Heddari Ulisi’ Committee convener, B Govindaraj Hegde, said that the Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district bandh, proposed to be held on Tuesday December 1, has been postponed for the present. “As repairs have been undertaken at certain stretches of the national highway 17 and as we have got information that grants have been sanctioned for the highway repairs, a decision to postpone the bandh was taken,” he has clarified.

Grants have been sanctioned by the union transport ministry for re-asphalting of some stretches of national highway, at Sastan, Santekatte and from Yermal to Mulkiy-Kolnad. In addition, a sum of Rs 1.99 crore has been released from the relief fund of the district commissioner, Rs 1.10 crore from natural calamity relief fund, and Rs 89 lac from the state highway’s M R Fund for repairing the national highway from Sastan to Mulky, he said in a release.
