Puttur: Two Chain Snatchers Arrested

Puttur, Dec 1: Uppinangady sub-inspector (SI) of police, Nagesh, said that two youths, accused of snatching away the ‘Mangalya’ gold chain on Saturday November 28, from the neck of a pedestrian who was walking by the road at Allangeri of Kokkada village near Nelyady, were arrested on the evening of Monday November 30.

The arrested men have been identified as Prashant Kotian alias Pachchu (28) from Udupi Udyavar and Pramod Kumar (23) from Bilinele near Kadaba, while the victim is Monamma.

The SI informed that the two were held with the help of the citizens from near Golitottu bus stand on Monday. A ‘Mangalya’ gold chain of three sovereigns, valued at Rs 28,000, has been seized from them, he revealed.

However, the local people said that the culprits were nabbed by the people, and a crowd of over 200 people had witnessed this incident. But the police department is said to have taken interest to settle the issue amicably, as the thieves belong to respectable families. As the people steadfastly opposed such a move, their arrest was recorded on Monday, the people claim.
