Udupi: Rains Likely to Visit Coast This Week

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Dec 2: The farmers of the coast, who have lost heavily due to the untimely rains, are jittery over the possibility of rain playing spoilsport again with their crops this week.

It may be recalled, that untimely rains had damaged standing paddy crops a few weeks back. At that time, the famous ‘Mattu Gulla’ crops, which were to enter the markets in a couple of weeks, also suffered heavy damages. Many of the ‘Mattu Gulla’ farmers have sown the seeds again, hoping to make good some of the losses. However, the possibility of rains soaking the coast has come as a dampener for them.

Light rains will not have much affect, the vegetable farmers feel. The meteorological department sources have said that the depression experienced near Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu may cause rains in Kerala coast, which might even extend to Karnataka coast. The coast may or may not receive rains, they have clarified. The farmers are keeping their fingers crossed.
