Nizamuddin markaz: 24 test positive for corona, 1,033 evacuated

New Delhi, Mar 31 (IANS): Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said on Tuesday that 24 people have been found corona positive in the Nizamuddin markaz that has turned into ground zero of the new cases spiralling out of control following an ijtima in mid-March.

Giving details of the case reported in Nizamuddin, Jain said that the government is not certain of the number but it is estimated that 1,500-1,700 people had assembled at the Markaz building.

The Delhi Health Minister said that 1,033 people have been evacuated so far of which 334 have been sent to hospital and 700 have been sent to the quarantine centre. Jain said that 24 cases have been found to be positive for coronavirus.

The Markaz, also known as Banglewali Masjid, is a six-storey building complex that can house up to 2,000 people. It shares its wall with the Nizamuddin police station and is adjacent to the famous shrine of Khwaja Nizamuddin Auliya. Starting March 13 there was meeting held here with peopel from Kashmir to Andaman islands attending it, besides Saudis, Thais, Indonesians, that has seen already six alone die in Telangan after their return.

A high level meeting was held at the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over the situation pertaining to the corona spread in the markaz building, 24 hours after the news of the Tablighi spread like wildfire.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Health Minister Satyendra Jain and other officials were present in the meeting.

According to Delhi Police sources, with the assistance of the Health Department around 800 people have been shifted from the Markaz building in Nizaumuddin to hospitals. Around 300 people are yet to be evacuated.

Intense sanitization is underway in the Nizamuddin basti area. The Jawaharlal Nehru stadium is also being prepared as a contingency plan for creating capacity for isolation.

The Nizamuddin dargah it is clarified has no connection with the Tableghi Jamat Markaz of Nizamuddin. The dargah had stopped gatherings in line with advisories during second week of March. The Markaz is half a kilometre away from the dargah.

    Sandhya,
I will tell what the Chronolgy is:
The official congregation was scheduled on 1st March to 15th March and took place as per the schedule . About 3,400 had gathered for the congregation. (It was not arranged from any freebie from the government as you people always say to deceive a commom man). Note that there was no lockdown announced by March 15th. So people stayed there as the government had not put any restrictions and it was usual life outside. But the Masjid immediately evacuated 2,000 people as soon as the government announced the lockdown; and then requested SHO (Station Head Office-Police) officially (I have seen the letter with the subject: “Regarding decongest Markaz Tableegh Jamath) to provide bus passes to evacuate the remaining people in the Masjid; while following the isolation guidelines inside the Masjid as far as possible. But they failed to get the help from the Police to transport the people in the Masjid (I know the police was also helpless). So finally the people inside the Masjid had no option but to stay at Masjid instead of getting stranded in the roads (as we can see today how the migrant workers are walking hundreds of kilometres with their babies and without food and money and what help/treatment they are getting from the government). Later they started to realize that that the people might be infected to the coronavirus.
So whom do you blame now? Do you have the courage to accept who failed to deliver in this whole episode?

Even if they had received the freebies; can you just explain how is that matter related to this incident? Please explain me if you are serious about your statement.

    Sandhya Madam,
For the sake of arguement, even if they had received the freebies; can you just explain how is that matter of taking freebies is related to this incident? Please explain me if you are serious about your statement.
Do you know that the Press Trust of India (PTI) had declared just on 13th March (just 2 days before the end of this Congregation) that "Covid-19 is not an Health Emergency"; QUOTING THE HEALTH MINISTRY.
So who do you think holds the responsibility and has huge resources and power to guide the citizens about the coming danger in the right time? . How can the people gauge the severity of the coming danger? Do they dream of the coming danger when they are not informed by the concerned authorities?

Nawaz. Whom are you trying to fool? On March 13 the Delhi government had banned all types of events, conferences and seminars, including the IPL. They had announced that there shall not gathering of above 200 people in the national capital. Please check and then post. But, it is very sad to know that people are still trying to play politics on this issue. Instead of falling prey to politics, both the community should unite and fight against this disease. Let's pray that whoever attended this recovers and remains safe.

What were these people gathering at Nizamuddin thinking? Is it a joke that the entire country is under lockdown? One wrong action by anyone of us can lead to a disaster of gigantic proportions!
LISTEN TO THE GOVT FOR GODS SAKE!!
