Mangalore, Dec 7 (DHNS) : Even as Section 144 had been imposed across the district, the city units of Vishwa Hindu Parishat and Bajrang Dal observed ‘Sri Rama Mandira Nirmana Sankalpa Dina’ at Rama Mandir on Car Street on Sunday.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Vibhag Sanghachalak M B Puranik, Bajrang Dal district President Manohar Thulajaram and Sridhar Bhat addressed the gathering.
The DK Superintendent of Police had issued prohibitory orders from December 5 to 7 banning all kinds of public meets and protest rallies.
The order had been issued in the backdrop of Babri Masjid demolition incident that happened on December 2, 1992, which is now being observed as ‘Hindu Vijayothsava’ by Hindu outfits and ‘black day’ by Muslim fringes.
Hindu Jagarana Vedike organised cultural programmes and a religious meet as part of its Sarvajanika Satyanarayana Pooja in front of Sri Venkatramana Temple on Car Street in the evening. City Deputy Superintendent of Police Amith Singh arrived on the spot and asked the organisers to cooperate to maintain peace. “I asked them not to make any provocative statements and not to continue the programme after 11 pm,” Singh told Deccan Herald.
In Kasargod
An undeclared hartal was found in Kasargod on Sunday due to the stone pelting incidents that took place on Saturday night. Since it was a holiday, students and working people did not experience much inconvenience.
However, there was no vehicular movement throughout the day. Only a few KSRTC buses plied under police protection. Stone pelting incidents were reported at Kasargod, Uliyattadka, Badiadka, Manjeshwar, Uppala and Kumble. Eight buses, both of public and private transport, have been damaged.
Over 1,500 police personnel had been deployed additionally on Sunday. About six cases have been registered in connection with stone pelting and torching a bike. Police have taken over 25 persons into custody.
