Mangalore, Dec 7: Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) here, Prof Hilda Rayappan, has filed a complaint with the policemen, alleging that the deputy director of the district women and child welfare department here, has taken away certain papers relating to the judicial investigations, which belong to the Child Welfare Committee located in Bondel in the city, without obtaining any permission.

In the complaint, she said that the deputy director of the said department, Shakuntala, and other staff members of the department, had visited the CWC office on Friday December 4, and had forcibly taken away records pertaining to certain cases like rape attempt, rape of a child in the hospital, sexual abuse of two boys and some other cases. A couple of these cases are pending in the state High Court, she added.

“The records have been taken away at a time when they are under investigation. As there are chances of misusing them, the records should be immediately handed back to the CWC. Legal action should be taken against those who took away the documents forcibly without permission,” she demanded in a complaint filed in Kavoor police station in the city.

Sub-inspector of the police station, Anantapadmanabha, said that the policemen are enquiring into the matter.

Our elected representatives feel RTI act hinders the work of government offices and therefore it should be restricted for one day only. The above story/reality proves how sincere the government employees are and how much they do work for a good cause.

It is the lobby that is at work to put the skeletons back in the cupboard which were unearthed by Prof. Hilda and team. All concerned for the welfare of the abused children should raise their voice in whatever way possible and do a bit to help these helpless children.

If the DD is not working for Child Rights, then she should not draw salary from the department. The children are abused in the first place, and the department steps in and stalls even the investigation. How ironic :)
