Enough testing kits here, consignment from China on way: ICMR

New Delhi, Apr 13 (IANS): The Indian Council of Medical Research on Monday said that there was no need to worry about testing capacity of the country and the country can test for next six weeks with the stock available in the country.

Addressing a press conference, ICMR's Chief Scientist Dr.Raman Gangakhedkar said: "There is no need to worry about the pace with which we are conducting tests. We have a stock with which we can conduct tests for the next 6 weeks easily."

He also said that 206,212 tests have been done so far, while the first consignment of coronavirus testing kits will arrive in India from China on April 15.

About Covid-19 infection among the health workers, he said it is not easy to find out the reason for infection among them as there was no solid data to prove the reason for it.

Joint Secretary, Health, Lav Agarwal, who was also present at the press briefing, said: "Most health professionals are getting infection due to their travel or contact history. There is only a miniscule population of healthcare service providers who have got infection while providing service to COVID patients. There are at least 39 domestic manufacturers who are providing PPE material... I would urge all healthcare workers to follow the protocol of using the PPEs."

How sad and looks dangerous; we were compelled to import testing Kits also from China, from where reportedly Covid_19 Virus originated and spread here and to the entire world!
Never before such Virus entered and spread so rapidly to the universe, crippling everyone like this!
It's so dangerous to be a global citizen; people are realizing how safe it was to be an indigenous citizen!
All benefits of being global citizen started eroding.

Hope covid 19is not hiding inside the kit. Any how we have to see (test) whether it is substandard or spurious after getting the first consignment. ICMR will do the needful.

A number of European governments have rejected Chinese-made equipment designed to combat the coronavirus outbreak despite their medical supply shortage.

The Netherlands joins Spain, Turkey, Georgia, and the Czech Republic in their concerns over masks and test kits. The claims come as the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases surge in the United States and Europe, highlighting the dependence many countries have on Chinese imports.

Last week, Spanish Health Minister Salvador Illa said the country had bought $467 million in medical supplies from China, including 950 ventilators, 5.5 million testing kits, 11 million gloves, and more than half a billion protective face masks.

Soon after receiving the supplies, the government announced plans to return 9,000 "quick result" test kits to China, because they were deemed substandard, specifically the sensibility of the test was around 30 percent when it should be higher than 80%.

Why not our own manufacturing industries work in three shifts with minimum staff and ask the nationwide volunteers to develop PPE using hand and 3D printing ?

Is Indian quality checks are better than the countries rejected the faulty consignment?

During olden days the superpower nations used to provoke the weaker countries to go on war so that superpower countries can make money by selling arms. Now China is doing the same to all the countries of the world selling masks, PPE, test equipments, ventilators etc etc. BTW, how safe, trustful and disease free these kits coming from a disease prone country?????....
