Mumbai, Apr 18: On Friday, Uddhav Thackeray, chief minister of Maharashtra announced that certain industrial and commercial activities will resume from April 20 onwards. This will happen, keeping in mind the norms in place to combat COVID-19. He commented that the decision had been taken to make sure that the economic cycle moves on. Even though the industries will resume functioning, there will not be relaxation in rules regarding the use of face masks, social distancing and hygiene. Nevertheless, businesses will not be restarted in coronavirus containment areas.

According to the revised guidelines to reduce the hardships caused by the lockdown, certain activities have been allowed to function subject to strict adherence of existing guidelines.

The CM added that while educational, training and coaching institutes will remain closed, they can resort to online teaching.

MGNREGA will be allowed to resume work with compliance to social distancing and usage of face masks. Priority will be given to irrigation and water conservation work. In areas apart from the containment areas, activities related to supply chain of essential goods, in manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade of essential goods by the means of local stores, large brick or motor stores or e-commerce companies will be allowed.
