Humanism, financial security must drive migrant labourers' issue: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Apr 26 (IANS): Humanism and financial security must drive our approach to dealing with migrant labourers amid the nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus scare, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said.

He said at a meeting of the Congress consultative group on COVID-19, held to discuss the issues related to corona tests and migrants, that these poor workers need to be "protected ".

Rahul Gandhi said that the states should be left to follow their own methodology as different states may choose different ways to tackle the migrants issue.

Rahul Gandhi said that it would be for the states to see how they deal with the migrants stuck in their jurisdictions.

Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram said that the migrants should be immediately provided cash as interim relief to tide over the crisis.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is Chairman of the group, said that India is lacking in corona testing and more testing was needed for the country to conquer this menace.

Former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh said that the country has the capacity to triple the numbers of tests, adding that 10 million test are required to reach the threshold level.

Randeep Surjewala, Chief Spokesperson and group convenor, said that the central government's financial plan to tackle the crisis has not worked and the government needs to step up its efforts.

Another former Minister and party MP Manish Tewari said that the party should give a proper plan to the government on "economic issues".

The party had raised the issue of migrants in a Congress Working Committee statement on Thursday.

"The CWC draws the attention of the central government to the necessity of framing a policy under which migrant workers who wish to return to their home states/villages may be allowed to travel under strict conditions of health safety, and provided adequate money and food in the interim...."

In the latest decision while the central government is accumulating a huge sum of money under PM CARES Fund as a corpus to fight COVID-19, the amount spent will not be audited by the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG).
Sources at the CAG office said that since the fund was based on donations of individuals and organisations, "we have no right to audit the charitable organisation”.

PM Cares Fund has FM (finance minister), RM (defence minister), HM (home minister) as members (trustees). PMNRF has Congress president and representatives of FICCI and Tata Trust as members. So the second is transparent and the first is opaque. It (PM CARES Fund) is also in violation of the Officials Symbols Act. The two trusts are not comparable”

C&AG will not audit PM Cares Fund. It was opaque to begin with. Is it going the way of electoral bonds?

The Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is right. If the 'PM Care fund' real meant to be 'cared', it should have debite 30 crores Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana accounts with 'zero balance'?

If Telengana government and India's poorest state of Odhisha Biju Janata Dal can manage 'disaster management' well with humanity why the 'PM Cares' fund are not transparent and not debited to the citizens who have lost jobs?

    You are desperately trying to hide your hatred but still it is visible to naked eyes. Anyway, why are you trying to compare Trump to Rahul? Is he the PM of India?? Trump is doing a very good job by giving suggestions to medical professionals like;

    1. Inject disinfectant - just like sound from Thaali drive away the virus.
    2. Heat kills virus - Just like fire and candle (and homa) kills the virus.
    3. Virus is just a flu - Like Radar doesn't work when it is raining

Your smart 'governance with a difference' should not have given ONE chance to the opposition to say - even one word. Where is the security India had for the past 70 years - the security to use in-case a war or famine like situation arises ? Where is the contingency funds that were reserved with the top most bank of India ?

Please explain - why did Modi govt withdraw it ? Now, the PM/CM are out with begging bowl ? Asking common man to contribute ? Shame on you who are abusing the opposition who got a chance to say things because of the stupid stept your leaders have taken.

    Shame !
