Udupi: Car Street Turns Vehicles-free Zone from Sunday

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Feb 1: Setting aside oppositions and objections received against its proposal, the district administration has gone ahead and made the Car Street area in the city a vehicles-free zone from Sunday January 31 onwards.

Gates have been set up at all the entry points of Car Street to control the movement of vehicles.

The vehicles that used to be parked in Car Street so far, have now been given parking slots at various points near the Car Street. The vehicles moving in through different roads have been instructed to be parked at the specific parking areas marked for the purpose.

The Swamijis of the eight Mutts have thanked the district administration for issuing the ban order on the entry of vehicles into the Car Street, because of the threat perception to the area from terrorists.

Turning what is Udupi's main identity a vehicle free is not enough, it should be made a clean place, When we think of Udupi- the first thing that strikes is the Udupi Lord Krishna Temple, but when people from far of place visit them, they feel disappointed, the facilites are very less, and all the structures surrounding the temple are pre british era, with lot of politics involved, these building have been left alone, for a nautral calamity to happen and collapse by itself, hope the authorities look it to it and make the road leading towards the temple more broader and some old buildings atleast having a facelift, this vehicle free is just a eye wash, which will do more harm then good, JAI HO UDUPI

The temple priests fear terrorists hence want the lane vehicle free. How about other places of worship then ? How are the authorities helping other communities live without fear ? Aren't elements in the vicinity as dangerous as terrorists ?
