Moodbidri: MU, Champions of All India Inter-Varsity Ball Badminton Tourney

Moodbidri, Feb 9: Mangalore University (MU) bagged the championship at the All India inter-varsity men’s ball badminton tournament held at Swarajya Maidan here on Monday February 7.
 
Acharya Nagarjuna University of Andhra Pradesh was the runners-up. S R M University, Tamil Nadu bagged the third place while Osmania University of Andhra Pradesh secured the fourth place.


 


MU team consisted players, majority of whom were from Alva’s College, Moodbidri. They defeated S R M University in two direct sets of 29 – 15 and 29 – 25, in order to bag the championship. The team of S R M University, Chennai defeated Osmania University, Hyderabad for 29 – 27 and 29 – 15.
 
Players from Alva’s College Sujith Kumar, Nataraj M, Pavan P, Girish L Kiran Kumar B N, Raviraj, Shankar G, Karthik P L, Nagendra Babu and Tejesh, represented champions of MU. 
 
Valedictory Ceremony

A Picchayya, first Arjun award recipient from Andhra Pradesh, presented the championship during the concluding ceremony.

MLA Abayachandra Jain presided over the programme.
 
Alva’s Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MU Dr Chinnappa Gowda, former state minister Amarnath Shetty, MU syndicate member Tejomaya, Ujire SDM College principal Professor Yashoverma and entrepreneur Srinivas Baliga were present on the dais.
 
Felicitations
 
Alva’s Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva felicitated A Picchayya from Andhra Pradesh by presenting a cash award of Rs 10,000. 
 
MU physical education director Dr H Nagalingappa announced the list of winners. Alva’s College principal professor Kurian welcomed the gathering.  MU physical education assistant director Dr Kishore Kumar C K proposed the vote of thanks. Venkatakrishna compered the programme. 
 
Special Award
 
Dr M Mohan Alva and MU registrar Dr Chinnappa Gowda announced cash award of Rs 25,000 each for the first two winning teams. M K Anantaraj presented the trophy to the winning team.

    i am also one of the player of ball badminton inter univrsity game, but it should have to reach at the level of international.so it will be famous in the world also. our game is very nice but it should be popular all over the india. more people dont know this game.so we shoud have to try to make it fovorite game of the indian people.
