Mangaluru: Assumption, patriotic fervor galore in Neermarga parish

Mangaluru, Aug 16: Neermarga parishioners assembled together and thanked God for His plentiful blessings in each one’s life and prayed for all the citizens of the country as they celebrated the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and India’s Independence Day.

The day began with the Eucharistic celebration at 7.15 am celebrated by Fr Joswin D’Souza and concelebrated by Fr Anil D’Mello, parish priest. Then the vibrant ICYM organised Independence Day at the church ground to pay tribute to all the freedom fighters and to remember their contribution for the Independence of India. The majestic tri-colour national flag, symbol of sovereignty, integrity, and solidarity was reverentially unfurled by Fr Anil D Mello, parish priest. Heart-stirring national anthem was sung.

The nationalistic renditions by the youth choir, the invigorating address by Gretta Vas, block resource person, Mangaluru South, esteemed the seventy four years of the development of the country since independence, reminisced with reverence the struggle made by our leaders, freedom fighters and brave soldiers. In her brief and bright speech, she underlined the need of understanding our capabilities to contribute more to the country, take pride in being an Indian and fulfilling one’s duty with responsibility. She also emphasized the role of youth today as the true wealth of a country charged the atmosphere with patriotic spirit.

Pawan Pinto compered the programme with precision. Molly Baptist, principal of St Liguori School, rendered the vote of thanks.
