Mumbai, Aug 18: A Nigerian national was refused bail even after she gave birth in jail. The woman was held guilty of cheating a media professional of Rs 1.4 crore along with her partner and others in the pretext of getting the victim a job in Austria.

The court while refusing the bail said, "Though the applicant gave birth to the child in jail, the ground is not justifiable to release her on bail. The jail authority will take care to provide her medical facility if required." The court reasoned that the accused may not appear for trials being a foreign national.

The victim was promised a job after they saw his profile in the employment portal. After working in a newspaper that shut down, the victim was jobless. Taking advantage, they assured him a salary of Rs 5 lac and a gift of Rs 56 lac and lured him to pay an amount of Rs 1.4 crore in the next few months. He realized he was being duped only after he sold his house, broke his fixed deposit to pay the money.

The accused are booked in Hyderabad also for similar cases.
