Bijapur, Mar 26: A teacher of Morarji Desai Residential School in Maragoor village in Indi taluk in the district lost his job after tying the nuptial knot with a ninth standard student.

“Rathore, who taught Hindi as an honorary teacher, tried to marry a student of the school. The girl is from Babalada village. The teachers and principal stopped him from doing so, and entrusted the girl back to her parents,” said Masa Reddy, social welfare officer of Indi taluk. He said that Rathore, who loved a ninth standard student, had taken her to Shankaralinga temple in Dhoolkhed near Maragoor and tried to marry her. He has been relieved from his job, he added.

However, the villagers said that the teacher, in spite of protests from the local people, had tied the holy ‘Taali’ around the neck of his lover. The parents of the girl, who were fuming, arrived there and threw away the ‘Taali’ found in their daughter’s neck, and took the girl with them, they said. The villagers say that this residential school has long been a centre for irregular and illegal activities. Because of the negligence of the principal and teachers, a student of the school had died recently,” they informed.

Zilla panchayat member, Panchappa Kalaburgi, too held negligence on the part of the officials and the principal of the school as responsible for the negligence in dealing with such issues firmly.
