Udupi, Mar 27: A day-long workshop on growing of vegetables and marketing them, was held at Hotel Udupi Residency auditorium, here on Friday March 26.  It was organized in association with divisional office of Karnataka State Agricultural Marketing Board, Mysore, directorate of Marketing and Inspection of the union government, district Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) and the district Krishik Sangh.

Speaking on the occasion, Anthony D’Souza said that the farmers have been facing difficulties because of lack of proper information.  Every farmer can earn profit, provided he himself sells his home grown agricultural produce, he opined.  In the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, very few farmers deal with APMC, and majority of them are being exploited by the middlemen.  APMC has organized this one-day workshop on growing vegetables and marketing, in order to keep the farmers abreast of the benefits of dealing with APMC, Anthony explained.
 
APMC district president, Vijaykumar Udyavar, Krishik Sangh vice president, Bhaskar Shetty, technical advisor, Dr Vigneshwar Varmudi of Vivekanand College, Puttur, Dr Dhananjay, scientist from Agriculture Science Research Station, Bramavar, Dr Laxman, assistant professor of Horticulture Research Centre, Ullal, Dr Raviraj Shetty, assistant professor of Agriculture Science Centre in the city, were present on the dais.
 
Ramakrishna Sharma, president of the district Krishik Sangh, presided over the programme.
 
Mahinder Singh, deputy chief manager,  Mysore division of Karnataka Agricultural Marketing Board, welcomed the gathering.
 
D Srinivas Bhat, chief secretary of district Krishik Sangh, delivered the introductory address.
 
Prashanth Shetty Kurkal compered the programme.
