Varahi Transmission Line Defunct - Twin Dists Reel under Darkness

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore/Udupi (SB)

Mangalore/Udupi, Apr 27: Most of the areas in the twin districts reeled under darkness on Monday April 26 following snapping of a 220 kv transmission line from Varahi in the evening.

The said transmission line became defunct at about 5.00 pm as the thunder and lightning hit the region. The problem was traced to a forest area near Belanje of Hebri and soon thereafter the officials of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited visited the spot.

It can be recalled here that in a similar instance on Friday night, a 220 kv transmission line became defunct and was repaired on Saturday at about 7.00 pm. And again on Monday, the other line snapped off with only a single transmission line supplying power.

The heavy rains that lashed the district on Monday evening have played havoc with both high tension and low tension electric lines becoming defunct.
