Udupi: Noted Yakshagana Artiste Ramdas Samaga passes away


Udupi, Apr 28 (The Hindu): Noted Yakshagana artiste Malpe Ramdas Samaga (84) passed away here on Tuesday following a cardiac arrest.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, including writer T.S. Ambuja, and son Vasudeva Samaga, who is also a Yakshagana artiste.

Samaga was smitten by Yakshagana at a very young age. He was part of the Karnataka Yakshagna Mela for nearly 35 years. The roles he played in “Harishchandra” and “Nala” earned him accolades and fame. He won several awards, including the Karnataka Janapada and Yakshagana Academy Award, the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy Award, and Yaksha Kalanidhi Award

    Now a days Daiji is publishing more sad news like this. Mr.Samaga, such a great artist of 80 - 90 s, we use to see his parts in tulu yakshagana especially in Koti - Chennaya. His death is a great loss to Yakshagana. May his soul rest in peace & condolences to his family. Yakshaganam Gelge ...

    It is a matter great grief for Yakshagana lovers. Shri Ramdas Samaga had an unique style of acting, with a mixture of humor & intelligence. He could speak for hours on mythological subjects, captivating the audience spell bound. His parts of Rama, Krishna were memorable. His many acting partnership with Kolyur Ramachandra Hegde will remain in Yakshagana lover's mind for ever. May his soul rest in peace & God grant the strength for his family to bear the loss.

    Yakshaganada innondu Sooryana asthangathavaithu.
    He was compared to none. He was a legend.
    He used to carry us to a different world while he was performing a role in Taalamaddale.

    Ramdas Samaga a greate yakshagana artist, news of his demise is certainly sad one for the lovers of yakshagana. His highly konwledged talks gave life to so many characters played by him. He is a legend, he participated in many Thalamaddale programs alongside the greatest artists like Sheni, Kumble, Kolyur etc. May his soul rest in peace.
