Bantwal, May 6: Kazi Al-Haj Twaka Musliar of Mangalore began a tour across Dakshina Kannada (DK) district on Thursday May 6, to study the evils of the dowry menace plaguing the Muslim community.

The tour is the Kazi’s own initiative to gain first hand information on the living condition of Muslim brethren residing in many villages en route Bantwal–Guruvayanakere–Uppinangady.  He paid visits to many families and heard to their grievances and suffering.

This kind of tour by a religious head was unheard of in the community. Meanwhile, the visit by the Kazi has created a ray of hope in the community since such kind of tours by religious heads existed in the times of Prophet Mohammed and Khalifa’s rule in Arabia.

‘Akrandana’, a documentary produced by Jamiat-ul-Falah and directed by Mangalore Media Center four years ago, had a great impact on the Muslim community and prompted them to take bold steps towards economic empowerment which has become a significant task indeed.

The visit of the Kazi has highlighted his social concern of the community as their religious head who has the distinct responsibility of leading the community in the doctrine of Islam.

“The community youth and Jamat committees should be inspired to stage a struggle to alleviate the dowry menace burdened with poverty and helplessness”, urged the Kazi.

He further said that physical and mental abuse and swindling money in the guise of dowry is a crime. The maligning of rights of the poor and hapless women of the community is against Islam.

Meanwhile, Kazi also realized the apathy of many Jamat committees in not responding favourably to the need of women in the community, after listening to their agony during his visit to many families.

The Kazi also expressed deep concern over the dowry demands by the community youth as he was deeply moved by a family who had two women who became mentally ill after being deserted by their husbands many years ago.

He said that there were many instances of different forms of abuse meted out to unfortunate women who are languishing at home without any support.

Dubai Hidayah Foundation president Zaheer Puttur and Haneef Puttur of Mangalore Media Center organized the Kazi’s visit along with Talent Research Foundation.

Talent Research Foundation president Riyaz Kannur, advisor Rafiq Master, and Santwana organization president Sayyed were present on the occasion.

The Kazi also visited the Jamat committee of Uppinangady and appealed to the brethren to take an anti-dowry stance.

“The committee members acknowledged that it will come into effect from Friday May 7”, informed Kempi Mustafa, president of the committee.

Just i want to comment on Mr.Achar’s note who says madarasa education makes worst to Muslims. Brother achar you are wrong to say like that. Islamic teachings are all complementary to life nothing against to humanity. Only some vested leaders manipulate to fill their stomach. If Islamic teaching are taught well and applied exactly as explained in our Quran and hadith there is no problem at all to any one.

Entire episode of Akrandana was his day and night effort which was supported and published by the Jamiyatul Falah Mangalore.

We need more and more such youngsters so that majority of the community people also can see the reality and let them render helping hand. My sincere thanks to our Khazi , Mr. Hameed and Daiji world.

It is appauling to see such living conditions even at this age when India has progressed leaps and bounds. Who is to be blamed for this? Why are muslims left behind, a question to introspect and ponder.

It is disappointing to note that caste system and dowry system exists in all religions. India will never improve until these are eradicated which can only happen when muslims also get educated like Hindus and christians. Hope to see that day soon.

Shanawaz, you are absolutely right. Unfortunately education in islam is focussed towards madrasa education which is only making things worse for muslims where they are taught all but education. I think one should have a serious thought to this if he is serious about education.

Illiteracy among Muslims is an enormous problem. This leads to resistance to change and new ideas. Change brings sense of insecurity and uncertainty and even fear. Tradition is deeply embedded in ones inner being and produces strong emotions. When new challenges arise some try to reinforce tradition, while others strive for change. This struggle goes on. Change, at best, appeals to the young. Therefore it would be easier to educate the youth about the ills of dowry system.

Lately Muslims have developed the awareness about importance of education. Poverty remains a major hindrance in achieving education. Rich segments of Muslims and Muslim groups must come forward and share the responsibility in establishing and/or aiding the existing educational institutions .The aim should be to achieve 100 percent literacy rate. For both Muslim men and women, education and economic empowerment are keys to a better life.

Dowry is not the only menace there is a long list of problems this community is facing. There is a big gap of haves and have-nots. The haves have to sincerely and God fearingly take out the ZAKAT and oversee it promptly and properly distributed among the poor. Conduct simple and mass marriages.Unfortunately they are not prepared to get rid of the customs and traditions even though they cannot afford two days meals continously.

A big chunk of the community leaves in the remote jungles. We must try to accomodate them in one neighbourhood. The Kazi may Allah bless him should try to educate the Islamic values Taqwa (convicted faith in the Almighty) and patience.

Alhamdulillah! It seems a new era of hope has begun in Mangalore Muslim community. I appreciate and thank the Qazi Twaka Musliar for taking this revolutionary step of approaching the poorest of the poor to study the evils of dowry menace. In fact by doing so, he has followed the noble gestures of our prophet PBUH and his Khalifas. If the society stands firmly with this Qazi Twaka Musliar in his noble effort, Insha Allah, a lot of good changes can be expected in the community. I request every Imaams and Jamath Leaders to join him so that a this innovative step by the Qazi be transformed in to a mass movement of the entire Muslim community in Karanataka. I express my profound gratitude to Mr. Zaheer Puttur, Haneef Puthur, Riyaz Kannur, Rafiq Master, Sayyed, Santwana and TRF for Joining the Qazi in this wonderful job. While looking forward for my next trip to Mangalore to meet the Qazi and be a part of this unprecedented anti dowry movement, I appeal all our NRI Kannadigas to meet, support and encourage the Qazi in his effort to eradicate not only the dowry but also other social evils such as educational backwardness, interfaith conflicts, racial hatreds etc. We can bring forth a great deal of social reforms if we, as a community involves ourselves in this great job under the leadership of the Qazi. From the bottom of my heart, I pray Allah Almighty to bless Qazi Twaka Musliar and his associates with good health and long life-Ameen- M.E.Moolur.

So far I generally see that the society is constantly visitng mosques or religious entities for praying, madrasa and also take turn in taking care of the living requirements of the mullahs etc.

Now glad that relious bodies/chifs etc putting effort through these programmes.

Mangalore Kazi Janaab Al-Haj Twaka Musliar has taken a noble step to reach out downtrodden of the society. He chosen a unique path than his predecessors and it is highly appreciated.

We have number of organizations which is active in different areas with humanitarian agenda. But still social menace like dowry system is existed and misused by some money hungry youths to fulfill their monetary requirement. In some cases the women married by the help of the organization and individuals has been deserted by their husbands. In the above circumstances husbands should have reminded their social obligations towards their family and organizations add some efforts to conduct workshops before marriage which may create awareness and remind social responsibilities.

Similarly, I urge every Masjid committee to make an arrangement to collect Zakat money and to utilize underprivileged of the society. Some places may have not enough rich to give Zakat , in such cases other affluent committees to divert the fund to the area of deficit. This should be governed by professionals with the help of religious leaders and organizations.

“Akrandana” awaken the society by capturing the grievances of the poor in CD and which made many people to think and do some good work to eradicate the social evil like dowry system. Similarly Kazi Janaab Al-Haj Twaka Musliar’s effort can bring more people to work for a good cause.

The beary community in Dakshina Kannada are extremely poor and their poverty is the main cause if illiteracy among this community. Illiteracy has given birth to lot of problems like social insecurity, unemployment, dowry, crime etc. Its high time for the community members to give a helping hand to the needy. Economic uplift is only possible through good education. Please educate the youth both male and femlae and so that next generation doesnt have to suffer.

Look at the picture how they living. IF Govt trying to do something for them, some fundamentalist not allowing to do in the name of religion.
