Udupi, May 8: An official of the survey department, who had been caught red-handed by the Lokayukta policemen, was found guilty by a court here.

A surveyor named George had conducted the survey of a land belonging to Ranjit from Mudoor village in Kundapur taluk in the year 2005. However, when Ranjit approached the department for a sketch of the land, supervisor in the department, Dhananjaya, allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 500. After Rajit filed a complaint with the Lokayukta police, the official was caught while accepting the bribe.

District and session judge here, K B Changappa, sentenced the accused to one year’s simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000. This was the first case to have been registered in the Lokayukta police station here, after it was set up in the year 2005.

    Well done, Ranjith.
Dhananjaya should be made to undergo humiliations in the whole Kundapura Taluk. Would like to see a procession taken with a slate on his neck marking his offence.

This would only help to curtail similar incidents.
