Moodbidri, May 9: The Reinstallation of Deity and Brahma Kalashabhisheka Mahotsava celebrations at Shasthavu Bhootanatheshwara temple here will be held from Wednesday May 12 to Thursday May 20.
The celebrations will commence on May 12 at 6 pm with the prayer and prasada parigriha ugrana muhoortha. The ceremony for reinstallation of deity will be held under the directions of eminent vaidics, B K Subramanya Thantri and Rama Thanthri on May 16 at 8.32 am. The Brahma Kalashabhisheka will be held on May 19 at 7.15 am.
The festivity will be marked by a variety of religious and cultural programmes on all days. These will be staged by the talented artistes and troupes of the district, the highlight being ‘Gurukiran Nite’ on May 16.
Several eminent dignitaries including state home minister Dr V S Acharya, district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar and Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva will grace the occasion. Noted bollywood actor Sohail Khan is expected to attend the programme.
Sri Vidyaprasanna Teertha Swamiji of Subramanya Mutt will inaugurate the religious programme on May 19 at 6 pm. Sri Gurudevananda Swamiji of Odiyoor Mutt will bless the occasion.
About the temple
With 1,500 years of history, Shasthavu Bhootanatheshwara temple is among the most ancient places of worship. It is situated in the idyllic surroundings of Mijar village inhabited mainly by the agriculturist community. The triple Shiva Lingam found on a single pedestal in the sanctum sanctorum is a unique feature of the temple. The temple has rich historical and mythological background.
Modern Touch
Best materials are used for the temple construction to make it more appealing to the future generation. As a modern touch to the ancient temple the upper roof has been covered with world-class quality copper plates imported from Germany. Known as ‘Patina Copper, it is green in colour. Special quality pink marble from Udaipur has been used for flooring and the Pauli Gopuram has been covered with special Thailand tiles. Patina Copper has been used in a temple for the first time in India, infact in whole of Asia.

Brahma Kalashabhisheka is not merely a religious event, but it is a occasion that reflects the rich cultural and traditional heritage of Tulu Nadu. Keeping this in mind the celebration committee requests all people who wish to witness the grand occasion from different parts of the region to attend the programme wearing the traditional Tulu attire and avoid wearing any modern dress.
The devotees attending the main programme on May 19 will have a rare opportunity to win attractive prizes for best traditional attire and attitude. Separate prizes will be given to men, women and children to encourage them to wear traditional dress.
