Bengaluru, Dec 18: The body of V Laxmi (33), deputy superintendent of police (DySP) serving in the special investigation unit of the state criminal investigation department (CID), was found hanging on Thursday at the residence of a family known to her. The police have treated it as a case of suspicious death and taken up investigation.

Laxmi had visited the house of people known to her located at Annapoorneshwarinagar here on Wednesday night for dinner. It is said she committed suicide there. Laxmi's father, Venkatesh, informed the police that his daughter had a strong mind and she would never commit suicide. He said he has suspicions about her demise.

The police have taken into custody Manorhar alias Manu, a friend of Laxmi, his friend, Rahul, apart from Prajwal and Ranjith. The police are questioning them to bring out the truth.

Police sources stated that an oxygen kit and Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike documents were found in a car in which Laxmi was taken to hospital.

As per the version provided by Laxmi's friends, Laxmi had taken part in a dinner party arranged at Maniu's house where she consumed liquor with other friends. At around 10.30 pm, she went to room, after which she used her veil to hang herself from the iron pipe of the window.

The friends said that they became aware of this, and immediately untied the noose and took Laxmi to a hospital at Nagarbhavi. They told the doctors there that when having liquor together, the officer had suddenly collapsed. The doctors declared her bought dead.

Senior police officers visited the spot and collected leading evidences. Her husband, Naveen, was asked to come here from Hyderabad, and with his permission, post mortem was performed at Victoria Hospital.

Officials of the forensic science laboratory and police accompanied Manu to his house where they conducted an inquest. Laxmi is the third DySP to have committed suicide in the state since 2016. Kallappa Handibag, DySP of Chikkamagaluru had ended his life in July 2016 at his relative's home at Saundatti, while DySP M K Ganapati attached to Mangaluru had ended his life with his service revolver in July, 2017.

Some versions of the story claim that Laxmi had bagged this post after her marriage and that she wanted her husband, presently working for Amazon at Hyderabad to shift to Bengaluru. There are suspicions that she could have been depressed on this issue.
